Recipe: Peach & Melon Granita
Every Wednesday evening and Saturday morning, CSR is at the Boulder County Farmers' Market. Pick up free recipes, try scrumptious seasonal samples and gather advice for cooking with ingredients fresh from the market.

Ingredients:

4 cups Coarsely chopped melon (about ½ melon, seeded)
¼ cup Sugar, or to taste
½ Tbs Fresh lemon juice, or to taste
2 medium Peaches, pitted, peeled and cut into eighths
1 cup Carbonated water

Method:

  1. Puree first four ingredients in a blender until smooth.
  2. Add carbonated water then pour into a 13- by 9-inch pan and freeze until the mixture becomes a firm slush (at least 40 minutes).
  3. Scrape with a fork and serve in chilled glasses.

Answer:
About 2,500 known varieties of apples are grown in the United States. Nearly 100 varieties are grown commercially in the United States, but 15 varieties account for over 90% of production. More than 7,500 varieties are grown worldwide.
