FOOD TRIVIA
Which popular summer vegetable is referred to as pommes d'amour, or love apples? Answer: Tomatoes - tomato advocates claim the fruit has aphrodisiac powers and, in fact, the French call them pommes d'amour, or "love apples." This fruit is one of America's favorite "vegetables," a classification the government gave the tomato for trade purposes in 1893. Each American eats approximately 22 pounds of tomatoes yearly. Over ½ of the tomato consumption is in the form of ketchup and tomato sauce.
