What mushroom is named after a marine mollusk? Answer: Oyster mushrooms. The oyster mushroom, or Pleurotus ostreatus to use its scientific name, is a fan-shaped fungus that does vaguely resemble an oyster. Juicy and with a good flavor, it is eaten raw in salads or cooked in stir-fries.
