Food Trivia
What popular Chinese ingredient is found in puddings, soups, and teas? Answer: Tapioca. Made from the root of the cassava plant, this starch is an important ingredient in Asian cooking. Although originally native to the tropical regions of South America, tapioca starch is used extensively in Chinese cooking as a sauce thickener (in the west you'll often find cornstarch used as a substitute). Tapioca is also used to make puddings and Asian bubble teas.
